Victor Arnold Merloni

December 31, 1936 — February 25, 2025

Southbrough, MA

Victor A. Merloni, age 88, of Southboro, MA died peacefully on Tuesday February 25th at Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA following a brief illness. He left behind his wife, Anne Merloni of Southboro, MA, his daughter Susan Merloni-Serra of Southboro, MA and his daughter Maria Merloni of Milton, MA. Victor had 6 grandchildren: Jeffrey Merloni of Southboro, MA, Kristen Loik of Westboro, MA, Ryder Merloni of Southboro, MA, Jennifer Coppinger of Southboro, MA, Luke Serra of Boston, MA, Jamie Keup of Douglas, MA, and one great grandchild “Teddy” Loik of Westboro, MA. He also left behind one sister, Betty Minnucci, of Southboro, MA.

Victor was a graduate of Ashland High School, where he was voted “most likely to be seen with a pillow” because of his long-standing love of naps. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1958. After that, he married Anne Marie Zucchi of Framingham, MA and they had three children- Jeffrey Merloni who predeceased him by eight years, Susan Merloni, and Maria Merloni.

Victor was a successful excavation contractor, known for his skill and integrity. He ran his business, V.J. Contracting, for many years until he was forced to retire at age 60 due to severe arthritis.

Victor was a funny guy who enjoyed telling stories from the “old days” and making up many nicknames for both friends and family alike. He has always had many friends, and although he had to attend the funeral of so many of them, still had friends until the day he died.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, sometimes taking trips to Maine for hunting and to the Great Lakes with his son Jeffrey for fishing.

Mostly, though, Victor cared about his family. He was married to Anne for 65 years, and together they raised their three children and three of their grandchildren as well. He likely lived so long because he wanted to make sure his many children and grandchildren were all okay.

The family is grateful that at the end of his life, Victor got to spend many hours with friends and family that loved him, and that his passing was relatively quick and not overly painful. We will remember him and love him always. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org

Celebration of Life will take place in May at a private service.
