Born on January 7, 1950, in London, United Kingdom, Mary “Mavis” (Callaghan-Cleary) Carle died peacefully in Worcester, Massachusetts on September 20, 2022.
Mavis is lovingly missed by her two daughters, Amy (Lyons) Wilson and Jacqueline Snow. She leaves seven beautiful grandchildren, Olivia, Keegan, Julius, Justice, Sullivan, Brielle and Jeila, nieces and nephews in the United States, England and Scotland and her sister Kathleen of London, England.
Mavis is predeceased by her mother Nellie (Cleary) of Ireland and her stepfather Jack Hawkins of Herne Bay, Kent, England. Recently, Mavis was reunited with her Cleary family members in Ireland which filled her heart with so much joy.
Mavis loved to reminisce about her younger years in the United Kingdom. She attended London Oratory School. She frequented Portobello Road on Saturdays for the market. She loved to walk the shore of Herne Bay.
At the age of 22, Mavis moved to the United States. First, she lived in Newport, R.I., then a few locations in Massachusetts. She fell in love with Millbury, Massachusetts and with the residents. Mavis made many friends in Millbury who became family.
Always a hard-working professional, Mavis was proud of her years working as a paralegal for a few law firms in Worcester, including Bernstein, Burwick and Tucker and Maynard & Cataldo. She also worked at Tufts University in North Grafton in the early 1980’s. Mavis worked many positions while a single parent, including being a bartender.
In her healthier years she loved consignment shops, meat raffles, watching live music and dancing the night away. Mavis loved riding on the back of a Harley Davidson and watching the New England Patriots. She loved reading and watching her favorite shows on Brit Box. Most of all Mavis loved family, whether you were blood or not.
Please honor Mavis and join us for a Bereavement Mass on November 4, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 44 Temple Street, Worcester, MA. “A Letter From Heaven”
When tomorrow starts without me,
And I’m not here to see,
If the sun should rise and find your
Eyes, filled with tears for me.
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry,
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn’t get to say.
I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time you think of me,
I know you’ll miss me too.
When tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I’m right there in your heart.
