James Leo Altieri, known affectionately as Jimmy, departed this world on March 5, 2025, in Northbridge, at the age of 78. Born on November 6, 1946, he grew up in Milford, where he nurtured a love for music that would ultimately define his legacy.
Jimmy was a man of many talents, merging the industriousness of a truck driver with the soulful artistry of a musician. His choice of vocation was not merely a job; it was an expression of his spirit. As he navigated the highways and byways, he carried with him an unwavering passion for music, a passion that blossomed during the heady days of the 1960s when he found himself at the forefront of a burgeoning musical scene. His band, The Ford Theatre, captured the attention of ABC Records and became part of the vibrant tapestry of live music, touring alongside legends such as Janis Joplin and the Allman Brothers in 1968. With an enduring devotion to his craft, Jimmy continued to perform well into 2020, sharing the stage with iconic figures like Charlie Daniels. His enthusiasm for music resonated deeply, and he lived by the mantra "Metal Rules."
He is lovingly remembered by his family, including his daughter Liza Rice and her husband Joe of St. Louis, MO, and his sister Dianne Bentley of Milford. His legacy will continue through his granddaughters: Stefanie Shimel, who is married to Brett and is blessed with six children; Tara Carr, who, alongside her husband Brandon, has two children; Kaitlyn Paez, married to Bob, also with two children; Britney Rice and his nieces Iris Bentley and Natalia Jordan.
Jimmy now joins his beloved parents, Leo ‘Plucky’ and Mary (Iannitelli) Altieri, along with his sisters Barbara and Lorraine Altieri, in eternal rest. His life, filled with melody and rhythm, will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him. Rock on, Jimmy. Your spirit lives on through the music you shared and the memories you created.
