Gregor Becker was born on June 05, 1951 in Baltimore, MD and passed away on December 07, 2022 in West Brookfield, MA. Always an advocate for fitness and challenges, Gregor was a gymnast and competed in wrestling and lacrosse during high school. He attended Frostburg State College in MD and upon completion of his Bachelor’s degree, Gregor taught gymnastics at a Private School in NJ. He then set out on a solo journey back packing throughout Germany for 18 months. Upon his return to the states, Gregor taught gymnastics in Westminster, MD.

Gregor was a lover of nature, and a proponent for a green environment and sustainability. He purchased several acres of land on Blackhaw Trail in Westminster and built a log cabin where went to be surrounded by peacefulness and pristine beauty.

In 1987 he met and started dating Cynthia Adams while she was pursuing a Master’s Degree at Towson University. Early in the relationship, Gregor had already committed to attend college in Knoxville, TN to pursue his own Master’s in library sciences. He purchased a house outside of Knoxville and moved to TN. Cindy visited one weekend though and it became evident that living apart wouldn’t work. Gregor returned to MD, and Cindy and he were married on 1/7/1989.

Gregor was a spiritual person and enjoyed traveling. One of his many accomplishments was hiking the Grand Canyon. Together with his wife, he would travel to different countries to experience alternative ways of living and cultures. The experience that Gregor continued to hold in his heart and soul throughout his life was meeting John of God while visiting Brazil. In 1994, Gregor was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Despite limitations in his later years, he would continue to work, travel, learn and advocate for the environment and sustainability.

Gregor was a librarian at the Carroll County Public Library and a former Chairman of the Sierra Club Catoctin Chapter. In April,1998 he received an award for his commitment to protecting the environment and his participation in a land use committee developing a county master plan from the Carroll County Environmental Affairs Advisory Board.

Gregor will be remembered for his kind soul, courage, commitments, beliefs and incredible inner strength.

He leaves behind his loving sisters, Lori Steffen, Penny O’Neill and his brother Clint Becker as well as his loving in laws, Sue and Jim Merriam, Larry and Deb Adams, Gregg and Diane Adams, Ron and Donna Adams, Laura and Steve Merriam, Lynda and Mark Stedman and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held to remember Gregor at a later date.
