George P. Nasinnyk, a beloved husband, father, brother, doctor, and friend passed away on October 29, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA. Born on May 2, 1943, in New Britain, CT, George's life was marked by a deep passion for learning and a profound dedication to his family and career.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University, George continued his education with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, followed by a Master’s in Biology from the University of Connecticut. His journey then took him to the University of Connecticut, where he earned his Medical Degree. After completing his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent Hospital of Worcester, MA, he embarked on a rewarding career in medicine.He was a long standing member of the Worcester District Medical Society.
For over 30 years, George served as an independent primary care physician in Southern Worcester County. He and his wife established a permanent office in Oxford, MA. His gentle, caring demeanor and determination to provide excellent care never went unnoticed by his patients. He retired in 2013, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and dedication to the health and well-being of his community.
George cherished the moments spent with his family, especially during Thanksgiving gatherings. His skills in making pie crusts for holiday pies were a particular highlight, showcasing both his creativity and the warmth he brought to family traditions. He was known for his quiet strength, thoughtful nature, and intelligence. He always sought knowledge and embraced lifelong learning.
An outdoor enthusiast, George loved nature and engaged in activities such as camping, canoeing, cycling, skiing, hiking and distance running with friends and family. Completing five marathons was a testament to his determination and endurance. His adventurous spirit led him to explore National Parks and travel the world, where he relished meeting new people and discovering international cuisines. In his spare time, he enjoyed fine woodworking, creating furniture for the home, and undertaking various do-it-yourself projects, from auto repair to finish carpentry. Additionally, In recent years, birdwatching became a favorite pastime. George embraced his cultural heritage by making traditional Ukrainian Easter Eggs and Ukrainian foods. He also expressed himself through drawing and sketching.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kathryn Nasinnyk; his son Erik Nasinnyk and his partner Mary Turner; daughter Kristin Steffel and son-in-law Brian Steffel; his brother Stephen Nasinnyk and sister-in-law Kristine; sister Lois Breau and brother-in-law Paul; sister Carole Tattersall and brother-in-law John; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Nasinnyk Dimitruck and Peter Nasinnyk, and his nephew Jonathan Tattersall.
His battle against multiple infections this year and a 40-year history of multiple sclerosis showed his resilience and commitment to life. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. George leaves behind a legacy of care, strength, and love that will be cherished by all who knew him.The family is planning a celebration of his life around his birthday in the Spring of 2025. Donations can be made in his honor to Massachusets Audobon Society.
