Cynthia Andreasen Setchell, 84, entered the arms of her Savior on January 9, 2025.
Cynthia was born on May 24, 1940 in Schenectady New York, the daughter of Lawrence Andreasen and Florence (Tucker) Andreasen.
She attended Scotia-Glenville Highschool, graduating in 1958. She was the first in her family to attend college, going on to Harpur College (now SUNY Binghamton) and further studies at SUNY Albany.
Cynthia loved music, performing in countless groups as a singer and flautist over the years, from Choralaires at Scotia-Glenville High, to sacred choirs in Rochester, musical theater in Maine, Community Chorus in Freeport, and the Worcester Chorus after moving to Massachusetts in her 70s.
She also loved teaching. She did everything she could to spark a love of reading in her students - no matter WHAT it was that got them to read. After her retirement, she visited China to teach young adults English, and returned several times to continue her work there.
Over the years, she was a treasured member of First Presbyterian Church of Schenectady NY, Cornerstone Presbyterian Church of Rochester NY, Christ the Redeemer Presbyterian Church of Portland ME, and Grace Presbyterian Church of Worcester MA.
She embraced volunteering in Maine including reading the daily newspaper aloud on public radio for people with vision impairment and regular volunteering at Freeport Community Services.
She is survived by her daughter Anitra Smith and son-in-law Andrew Smith of Auburn MA, her sister Lesa Andreasen of Freeport ME, and her ex-husband John Setchell of Webster NY. She is also survived by nephews Benjamin LeHay, Matthew Andreasen, and three grandchildren, Claire, Asher, and Elliot Smith.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, February 8, at Bethlehem Bible Church in West Boylston MA.
