Angel Custodio Rivera Berrios, 83, of Fitchburg, MA, passed away peacefully, on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Heywood Hospital in Gardner, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of declining health. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Sonia Delgado De Rivera.
In addition to his wife, Angel is also survived by his 4 children, Denise Rivera Delgado of Atlanta, GA, Sonia Rivera Delgado of Fitchburg, Gimey Rivera of CT and Juan Rivera Guzman of NY; his grandchildren, Gilda, Denise, Estrella, Arnold, Angel and Norman; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Angel Edgardo Rivera Delgado.
Angel was born on October 2, 1939, in Orocovis, PR, a son of the late Francisco Rivera and Ramona Berrios. He was raised in San Juan, where he graduated from school and later earned his bachelor degree. Angel dedicated his life to protecting others as a police officer in Puerto Rico, eventually retiring as a captain on the force after many many years of service.
Angel was a very active person his entire life and worked hard to keep his body and mind in good shape. He enjoyed working out and lifting weights and was also a voracious reader. He was a walking encyclopedia, with a vast knowledge on all kinds of subjects. He was a talented handyman that could fix just about anything. He also enjoyed spending time in his yard gardening and doing yard work. Angel was a fierce and lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and also an avid horse racing enthusiast.
Relatives and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 3-6pm,on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at COMFORT CREMATION FUNERAL HOME, 1027 Main St., Worcester, MA 01603. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
