Andrea Theresa McClellan Downes, of Marlboro, Massachusetts, 74, formerly from Hudson, died peacefully, in good care, on Saturday, September 25, 2021.
Andy attended public schools in Clinton and Harvard, before moving to Hudson in 1962, where she graduated with HHS Class of 1964. She began her working career as a teller at Hudson Savings Bank, followed by office management positions at Don’s Gulf and Thomas Taylors in Hudson. She retired from Data General Corporation, Southboro, in 2007. Through her passion of knitting and crochet, she brought warmth to many, by way of dozens of sweaters and afghans she hand-crafted throughout her life; her will and patience was evident by the countless jigsaw puzzles she was forever constructing. Andy was an avid Bingo player, and enjoyed playing Yahtzee, or a good game of cards. She was a member of AMVETS 208 and VFW 1027 Ladies Auxiliaries, and took part in many local parades and ceremonies, to honor veterans.
Andrea was predeceased by her parents, Anne Grace and Paul Fuller McClellan, Jr., and brothers Paul Joseph McClellan and Thomas Joseph McClellan. She is survived by her loving son, Todd Downes, of Clinton, MA, and his wife Sarah, and three grandchildren, Jacob, Seth, and Avery. She will be terribly missed by her brothers and sisters, and their families; Patricia Dority of Northeast Harbor, Maine; Daniel McClellan of Little Rock, Arkansas, Kenneth McClellan of Las Vegas, Nevada; John McClellan, and his wife, Brenda, of Hudson, Massachusetts; and Margaret Box, and her husband, Charles, of Orland, Maine. Andy was loved by all whose lives she touched, including former in-laws, old friends, and nieces and nephews. She was a loving aunt to Michelle, Daniel, Shawna, Shane, Nena, Ben, John, Tom, Dan, Emily, Zachary, Douglas, Kevin, Angela, Bobby, and Hannah. In her final years, she relied on care from outside the family, including the entire staff at Christopher Heights in Marlboro, and other unnamed, heaven-sent caregivers.
There are no calling hours, and a private service will be held at a later date, though good thoughts and prayers are always accepted.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations, in Andrea’s name, to Hudson Community Food Pantry, 28 Houghton Street, Hudson, MA 01749.
